Our Proud History
| 1928 |
Rose City Label was founded by George S. Frie, an
aspiring label salesman from Kalamazoo Label in
Michigan. Specializing in cakebox bands, George
purchased a letterpress and took Portland, Oregon by
storm.
|
| 1960 |
George turned the business
over to his son, Wayne Frie, and his son-in-law, Al
Fisher, who challenged the limits of the print industry
with one of the first 4 color flexo label presses
the West had ever seen. |
| 1968 |
Wally Paulson completed the
dynamic trio when he merged his business, the William
Angel Company - the only Portland label printing
competition at the time, with the proven power of Rose
City Label. |
| 1977 |
Another Northwest company, Zellerbach Paper, and Rose
City Label shared employee friendships and company
fishing trips on many occasions. Wally's favorite
fishing buddy, Mike Pillsbury, became interested in Rose
City Label and began working there until he purchased
the company.
|
| 1993 |
Rose City Label finally lured Whitney, Mike's
daughter, away from her cozy job with the State of
Oregon and into the arms of her family business.
|
| 1994 |
After a tour with the US Air Force and two successful
years as a stock broker, Scott, Mike's son, transitioned
from Seattle, Washington to follow in his dad's
footsteps.
|
| 1998 |
Upon their father' passing, Scott and Whitney proudly
continue Rose City Label's legacy, stronger than ever.
